Because my Internet searches have totally failed me, I'm turning to humans for help on this one: I'm trying to find lyrics for a song written or at least popular in 1918-1919 that contains the following phrase: "What shall we be when we aren't what we are?" It's mentioned in one of the closing chapters of Leon Wolff's book, In Flanders Fields: The 1917 Campaign. I need it as part of a small constellation of mish-mash I want to include in the repertoire of a character in a novel I'm writing. Any help will be appreciated.
To the one who helps me find what I'm seeking will go an authentic, hand-crafted entry on this blog, suitable for being ignored by the vast, vast majority of this world's inhabitants.
