It's (semi-)Official

Just remember you heard it here first, folks. Although where else you'd hear it I'm hard-pressed to say, because I'm not sure what other major or minor news outlet would consider this newsworthy:

On Sept. 9, I'll start teaching an online English class at BYU-Idaho.

That is of course, as they remind me, as long as the demand is there. And as long as I pass all the training. And as long as I keep my name out of the local newspaper police blotter and such.

Still not sure why I think this is a good idea. The money certainly isn't anything to brag about; it works out to about $13 an hour if I put in the bare minimum time required, but I'm sure that's not going to happen. Experience-wise, the payoff is better, as I've discussed before.

With the speed with which they e-mailed me the contract, even before I've finished all the training involved, I have to wonder if they're desperate to get lots of bodies into teaching these courses -- It's a course all BYU-I students are required to take, so they've got to have scads of, uh [insert teacherish lingo here] sections of the course available. And considering I'm only a few steps away from being a walking, talking, full-bodied embodiment of Homer Simpson with a testimony tells me that, yeah, they probably are scraping the bottom of the barrel. But part of that is probably just the typical Davidson self-confidence coming through.

So I start in September, go through mid-December. Further bulletins, of course, as events warrant.
