Trust the Experts

In other words, beware the experts who are expert in word but not expert in action.

And more importantly, learn to recognize the Rick Moranis-like failings (platform shoes with a plaid jacket, anyone?) in yourself.

I learned a long time ago that there’s a fine line between instant expert and instant asshole, having crossed that line several times myself. I now recognize when the little bitty bits of knowledge I’ve got in my head threatens to push me over that line and I learn to pull back. I’m not always successful, but I’ve had fewer forays into the external realm of stupidity.
