Twitter Twitted

I usually don't go in for April Fools jokes because, well, most of them are just plain dumb. This one, played by England's Guardian newspaper, however, is hilarious. Its premise is plausible enough that you get sucked into it and until you realize the satirical bent to the whole thing you're reading along thinking, "Waaaaaait a minute. This can't be right."

So, in the spirit of the day, an in stride with The Guardian's joke, I offer the following historical tweets:

1945

Looks to be a quiet day. Can only hear one plane flying over Nagasaki right now.

1968

Pigs beating us here in Chicago! Peace! Peace! Democracy is dead!

1969

@mission_control Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed.

1972

Lights in DNC HQ across the plaza. Boy do they work late!

1981

Oh noes! Reagan's been shot!

1986

@mission_control Roger. Go with throttle-up.
